Catherine Cardigan Tour: Sew Pony

Long time, no see (or sew) everyone! I have definitely taken some much needed time off this past year, but I am ready to get back into the sewing world and the best way for me to do that is to join tours again! I thrive on having a deadline, but the ironic part is that my post was supposed to go up Tuesday… and it is Friday, but hey, I made it.  Suz from Sew Pony has an adorable new pattern called The Catherine Cardigan and I knew I would get a lot of use out of this one. So, read my review and explanation of modifications below, but also be sure to grab the pattern for 15% off with code Catherine15.

Ainsley loves cardigans because you can wear them over tank tops, tshirts and style them many ways.
While I loved the look of the original Catherine Cardigan, Ainsley asked me to modify a few things.  First, she wanted regular sleeves and not the gathered sleeves.  In order to do that, I did need to change the shape of the sleeve cap a bit.  Secondly, she only wanted one button at the top so that it was more of a swing coat.  I was happy to oblige with that… less button holes make me a happy mama.  The rest of the changes were simply because I didn’t have enough of the fabric left for arm bands or the neck bow.  (fabric from Joann Fabrics last year.  This was all I had left.)

Ainsley was very pleased with the outcome!  I self drafted a gathered skirt with a flat waistband using Michael Miller heavy weight fabric.  Gives it a nice structure.  The polka dot crop top (tucked into the skirt) was also self drafted and I may consider drafting one for my shop soon!

The pattern tapes together very easily and the instructions are very straightforward.

Overall, the Catherine Cardigan was a great pattern and I will reuse it again, but with all of the features next time.  I think a lightweight knit or sweater knit would be better for the neck bow and arm bands.  Great pattern and will be used a lot around here!

I like the cute yoke on the back and the gathered detail of the bodice (hard to see with this fabric).

Someone is pleased with their new Easter outfit and I am pleased that it is already done and ready!

So, Ainsley being Ainsley, loves to style her clothes.  After shooting the skirt, she asked if we could do some “casual” shots with the cardigan.  She came down with jeggings, her new polka dot crop top and the cardigan.  Love her.

(No, she is not allowed to wear this crop top out without a cardigan or high waisted pants ha).  But I will say, she has some good style and it goes to show that this cardigan can be very versatile.  Thanks for having me Suz!
