Hawthorne Threads: Calliope Tour and Giveaway

WINNER HAS BEEN CHOSEN:  Allison Pogany   Thanks for entering!!!

A few months ago, I received an intriguing email from the lovely people over at Hawthorne Threads.  They told us that they had a secret project in the works and I had a feeling that they were in the process of creating their own fabrics… and I was right!  One of you will win your very own fat quarter bundle…. giveaway is at the bottom of this post!califaye1

The talented team over at Hawthrone Threads created 2 lines of inspiring prints.  I chose the Calliope line, which has gorgeous colors and designs.  (The Bengal tour was last week.  Head over after reading here to see how cool it is!)

Calliope Blog Hop Logo

Check out Calliope!  I can see these made into a beautiful purse or a little girl’s dress or how about some lovely pillows?

Make sure you enter the giveaway at the bottom of this post!Final Calliope Collage with Ruler

The print I chose to sew up is the graphic “rhythmic in indigo“.  I just love how simple it is, yet it is unique and modern.

califaye7

(Shirt pattern used was the Cali Faye Voila Women’s blouse and while the idea of it is super cute, it turned out HUGE on me.  The pictures here show the top after I altered it by taking out almost 10 inches from the sides.  It is still too big and will require further modifications.  I made the size extra small and it should have fit based on the measurements, but somehow is incredibly large.  If I make it again, I will most definitely have to grade it down at least 2 sizes, if not 3.  And no, I am not pregnant, but the shirt kind of makes me look like I am ha! )

The fabric, however, is such a fun print for any time of year.  I love it paired with the yellow cardigan and brown leather boots.

(ainsley was teasing me through the window)

I have a bit of leftover fabric, which I will use to make Ainsley a matching top.  I can also see this print being a really really cool bag.

Thanks so much for having me, Hawthorne Threads.  I have been a long time fan of your shop and I am super excited for your new line of fabrics!

Make sure to follow along each day to see what each talented blogger made using the Calliope fabrics!

I think the blouse looks so cute on you! This is something that I will be making for spring, with your comments in mind. The Calliope fabrics are enchanting. The first thing I imagined from the fabric was a tote bag using 3 or 4 of the fabrics to create a colorful exterior and 1 special fabric for the lining. Right now I am heading back over to Hawthorne Threads to check out the fabrics! Thank you!

  38. Heather November 10, 2014 at 12:30 pm #

Very cute shirt! I wish I would go forth and conquer when something isn’t working out for me size-wise, but I just toss it into the UFO pile. I guess making a commitment to finish it for Hawthorne Threads would help with that!!

That fabric is gorgeous!! I know someone with a new baby girl that would love this very much, so I would make something for her sweet little baby with it!!

    Thanks for the opportunity!

  59. Stepper November 10, 2014 at 5:06 pm #

I love your whole outfit! I would have to make some adorable patchwork shorts for my daughter’s summer wardrobe. Then buy a few yards of my favorite color to make myself a blouse like yours. I don’t think it makes you look pregnant, but I do think it’s one of those style tops that can work while pregnant as well as not. Which I’m currently in the mood for, even though I’m not currently pregnant either.

  60. barbara woods November 10, 2014 at 5:22 pm #

  96. Vicki W November 11, 2014 at 3:52 am #

such beautiful fabric calls for a beautiful quilt to showcase the gorgeous panel and border designs. And with a friend of mine expecting their first baby any day now… here’s hoping its a girl. Then of course there would have to be matching bags, dress and all the everything else that would go with it.

  97. Delaine November 11, 2014 at 5:21 am #

  109. Diane Beavers November 11, 2014 at 8:30 am #

Rythmic hearts is very feminine to me and a Peplum top or apron would be great to stitch up.
Your blouse is gorgeous in the Rythmic in Indigo

  110. Mary Baker November 11, 2014 at 8:51 am #

Love this fabric. I am a quilter so that is what I would make with this…plus I love blue and white so a set of curtains to match would be nice too!

  111. Jordan Slice November 11, 2014 at 9:14 am #

Love how your blouse turned out! Very pretty – especially paired with the yellow cardigan! If I win, I’d love to make a simple top – maybe something like yours or See Kate Sew’s Zippy Top!

  112. Nancy B November 11, 2014 at 9:33 am #

Your shirt is lovely (even if you say it is too large) and I love your selection of fabric. I would choose the same fabric,”rhythmic in indigo” and make matching tops for my two granddaughters. Then I would need to find yellow sweaters for them as the yellow makes the indigo print just “pop”. Thanks for the give a way!

  113. Katie November 11, 2014 at 10:14 am #

  118. Angela November 11, 2014 at 11:08 am #

So pretty. I would make all kinds of beautiful fabrics things for my baby’s room (she’s due in March). The pink fabric in the middle would be especially cute as the bottom of curtains!

Ohhh…I saw the Bengal fabric tour last week and loved it. I think I like Calliope even more though. Love the fabric you used on the blouse paired with the yellow cardi. Happy to have found a new blog to check out too. I would make bags or maybe get brave and try my first garment.

Love this new line of fabric by Hawthorne Threads. I’ve been in touch with them all day as they are helping me decide on some fabrics to purchase for a new quilt. I would love to use the blue fabric you made your top out of to make a dress for my 7 year old granddaughter an a matching one for her 6 month old baby sister. I would also use one of the coordinating fabrics as an accent on the dresses. I love seeing little girls in colors other than pink and purple.

This fabric line would be fabulous for a kids tote … like the one featured this summer in the Michael Miller kids craft camp tutorials: http://www.makingitfun.blogspot.ca/2014/08/mmf-kids-craft-camp-project-3-lined.html The bonus in making a kids tote is that it takes smaller pieces and would be the perfect project for a fat quarter give-away! 🙂

  170. Tina November 15, 2014 at 10:50 am #

The blouse looks super cute on you.
And now I will be wondering the rest of the weekend if the blouse is really that big or if you are just so tiny *g*
What is unfortunately not my problem *lol*

Being it a fat quarter bundle, I would make a new table runner or a table cloth.

  171. Betty November 15, 2014 at 4:00 pm #

I’m so glad you used that fabric for an adult’s shirt. I’ve been eyeing Calliope and Bengal, but thought Calliope might be a bit too young in focus. The colors are so eye-catching though. Even though I tend to make tote bags, I might try my hand at a quilt if I win the fat quarters. Thanks for the chance!
