I am so excited and ready for summer, are you? Just recently, I went through both of the kids’ closets and realized that they are in desperate need of new summer clothes, so I have been busily at work getting them restocked. The Soleil Dress by Selvage Designs is such a perfect dress for the upcoming hot weather!
For my Soleil, I used an incredible navy blue and white striped knit that we used for our Willow and Co lookbook. and we have a few yards available in our shop. It has a hefty feel and is perfect for this type of dress. For the navy trim, I used a thick rib knit.
The Soleil pattern has the option of an open back or a closed back and I love both! For this dress, I chose to do the open back, which will be great when it gets very hot out. I love surprising details like this!
Ainsley is obsessed with pockets, so of course, those are her absolute favorite detail. I am sure they will be filled with randomness soon.
I love navy and pink together, so I added a cute pink chiffon bow to the front… and it had Ainsley’s seal of approval.
The pattern carefully walks you through everything, including ensuring no gaping where the ribbing is placed. It is important to follow those instructions because you could end up with drooping. I managed to get through it without any issues. Yay!
Unfortunately, by the time I got around to taking photos, it was a bit too sunny in my normal location, so my photos are “off” but I had to share some more of my cutie.
If you are looking for an adorable summer knit dress, definitely check out the Soleil dress by Selvage Designs! I plan to make some more in the next few weeks! Thanks for having me on your tour.

Do you use a serger when you sew children’s clothing, particularly clothing made from knits?
Hi Pat! Yes, I always use a serger, unless I am doing french seams, etc. I stitch first and then serge the seams. For knits, I use mainly the serger!
I have seen this pattern throughout the last couple months and dismissed the open-back option because it often looked … well, tacky. You nailed it and made me want to try it. Thanks!
The stripes are great! Perfect for a nautical touch.
