For my second contribution over at Go To Patterns, I chose the Maxwell Top by Shwin . Go over to the Go To Patterns Blog to see the rest!
The first thing Ethan said when he saw the finished top was “Cool!” That pretty much sums it up… if a 6.5 year old boy thinks it is cool, it likely is.
I love how unique this shirt is!
I created the main shirt out of blue chambray. I added navy blue buttons and one large bronze button at the button tab.
For fun, I sewed up the back yoke in a bold, geometric print, which would also make for some fun summer shorts!
One of my favorite design aspects of the top is the large button tab. It is so simple, but it is what sets it apart from other patterns, in my opinion.
The Maxwell Top pattern ranges from sizes 12 months to 8 years, so I am sadly almost at the end of it. I made the size 6 and it was spot on. How did he get so big already?
The two front flap pockets are optional, but I love them. What kid doesn’t want pockets on their clothes, right?
He looks pretty hip and cool in it!
I really enjoyed that this pattern has mostly enclosed seams on the inside, including the facings. I did have to seam rip that collar a few times to get it just right, but it was worth it.
Thanks for letting me sew up another awesome pattern from Go To patterns! This one was a hit, for sure!

Oh, I love the Maxwell Top. I made it for my son’s first day of kindergarten. I also had to do the collar a few times. Glad it wasn’t just me!
Love the fabrics you chose. I may just have to make another.
Cute!!!
