It is Downton Abbey time!
I know lots and lots of you are in absolute love with that show… and my friend Elisa from Charming Doodle has a cool series going on this week with tons of 1920’s inspiration for all of you.
The 1920’s was a reach for me stylistically, but that is what I love about blogging. All it takes is one blogging friend to ask you to do something, and next thing you know, you are creating and thinking. It isn’t that I don’t love the look of the 1920’s styles because I really do! I think it is one of the most classic and amazing fashion eras that have ever existed, but it just isn’t something that I am usually drawn to making, so I really appreciated when Elisa asked me to join in on her series. I love when someone can get me out of my comfort zone and push me to do something new.
For Ainsley’s 1920’s inspired dress, I used my short sleeved Norah Dress pattern as a starting point and she loved it so much!
I used a silky knit fabric and I pleated the shoulders for extra “fanciness” and added some beautiful beaded lace trim to the sleeves.
In order to create the typical drop-waisted skirt that was popular in the 1920’s, I used a really pretty gold embroidered ribbon as a belt and added a cream chiffon rosette. A simple poof of the dress and it has the appearance of a drop-waisted dress without the extra work. I also added some lovely beaded trim to the bottom.
The cloche was something that I plan to tweak, for sure.
I saw that Elisa had posted a beautiful looking pattern on her blog and I absolutely want to make that one next. The one I used was a vintage cloche pattern that didn’t quite turn out as planned. However, I love the lace trim and the beautiful gold button accent.
Make sure you enter to win some amazing prizes!
Thanks so much for having me!!!
This was such a fun project.
And make sure you check out the other fabulous bloggers joining in her Downton Abbey series. I can’t wait to see what they create!

What a beautiful outfit! That color just pops on your daughter, and the lace trim with beads is just perfect for that era. Be sure to add this to our Snowflakes & Lace linky party. It’s perfect!
