I had the chance to sew up any pattern from Go-To Patterns for the Pattern Tour over at The Train to Crazy and I chose The Boardwalk Skirt! What a wonderfully full skirt!
I paired the Boardwalk Skirt with a simple peasant top (self drafted). How perfect is this for play and school?
I was planning to sew the skirt up exactly as instructed, but realized I had already sewed the waistband on without fully reading the instructions (oh, this is what happens when you are tired). So, I didn’t include the adorable drawstrings, but everything else is exactly as written. I love how full and twirly it is and love the lining peeking out. The pattern also gives instructions on how to add a peek-a-boo ruffle on the lining. That is next on my list.
I plan to pair this outfit with a cream-colored knitted jacket, thick white tights and brown knee-high boots for the winter. This isn’t just a summer skirt! I love when you can buy a pattern and have it work for multiple seasons. I am a big believer in using your fabrics to guide the seasons, not the pattern.
A few years ago, I had purchased 5 yards of vintage embroidered trim and hoarded it, knowing that the perfect project would pop up. Once I chose the plain blue chambray for the skirt and the organic yellow cotton for the shirt… I knew that the trim would be the perfect accent. I adore all of the colors.
Ainsley was really working the camera…. posing like a pro…
…until she started getting silly…
…and jumping like an awesome little girl…
…..hahahahah!
The Boardwalk Skirt is definitely going to be a skirt that we make over and over and over!
