The Bimaa Hoodie: Sew Fab Sewing

Hey guys!  I have still been busy sewing up a storm using the patterns from the Sew Fab sale.   Have you purchased your bundle yet???
Boy, was I excited when I saw that the Bimaa Sweater was included in the bundle!   I started this one right away and loved it!
But here is the thing.
I was naughty and didn’t read the directions or suggestions on the pattern….. and this happened…..
It won’t even fit over her arms.  ha!

Completely, utterly, totally, literally my fault 100%.
I loved my owl sweatshirt knit so much and thought it would be totally perfect for this pattern…. I didn’t read the part of the pattern that says  “use a knit with 4 way stretch”…. this owl fabric is not that at all.  My owl fabric is actually closer to a woven.

Whoops.

I should know this.  I have been sewing for years and this is something that I should have known and I am kicking myself.

So, I now have to figure out what to do with it.   I don’t want to toss it because I love it.   Everything else about it fits perfectly except for the fact there is no stretch.   I am thinking of cutting it down the middle, adding a placket and a zipper?  Maybe make it a zip up hoodie?

We shall see…. I plan to work on it today and I will update when I figure it out.   I also plan to make a new one…. with stretchy knit:)

Awww, that sucks! It’s so cute in that fabric! I don’t think mine had 4 way but I managed to squeeze her into it regardless. This one looks a bit less stretchy 🙁

You did a great job no matter what though. Maybe a younger child could fit into it? Love that print!

love the fabric as well, and yes! definitely do try to salvage it! 🙂 And, I love the look on her face!

I think adding side panels (heavy weight rib knit or something has good stretch!) would be the easiest!

I definitely think that would have been easier, but I didn’t have any black knit on hand…. how crazy is that?

Oh, no! How sad! I love the fabric. I think it would make a perfect zip up hoodie!

The one I just made is a little snug, too, and I think it is because my fabric didn’t have a lot of stretch with the grain. When she gets to the point that she can’t put her arms in it, I might make it a zip up, too, but I’ll wait to see how it turns out for you first!

    Definitely go for a zip:))

Would it work if she put her arms through first and then her head? Or would that be too movement restrictive? Just a thought.

I tried that and she cried, haha. I ended up changing it to a zip up! Thanks for the suggestion, though!
