Back in May, we hired contractors to do our entire basement and it is finished! Well, except for the decorating 🙂
Quite a few of you have been begging to see my new craft studio. I was going to wait until I was finished making it pretty, but what the heck…. why not show you some progress photos, right??
So, here you go!
Still lots left to do, but here is what it looked like this morning.
View into the room.
The right side.
View from the playroom
(you can see The Market, right?)
I love that I can work while the kids play. There is no door to my room (done on purpose), but they know they aren’t allowed in unless one of their limbs has fallen off.
I have divided up my room into sections.
This is where I store all of the ready to buy items I used to sell in my etsy shop. I am almost out, woot! I am still not sure what I plan to do about custom orders, now that I am working on creating patterns…. we shall see!
This is where I sew. That wall art behind my machines will be hung (more about that art another day:). There will also be some cute peg board hung on the other wall to store all of the threads and buckets of junk.
Neatly folded fabrics make me happy.
This hutch, remember it?
This is the left side of the room.
Yes, that is a large dollhouse I built years ago in college. It will be put into our storage room, but for now, the kids love to ask me if they can play with it.
There is also my cutting table and mats and ironing board.
This is the view out of my room into the play area.
I am feeling brave today.
Closet 1 houses fabric scraps, fleece, and knits.
I need to destash…. badly.
This is also where I keep all the patterns I have drafted.
Closet 2 is a mish mash of photography equipment like backdrops and stands and then extra threads/notions/glue/etc.
Oh, and a broom for right before I take photos.
The rest of the basement includes a playroom, a family room/tv area, a storage room/exercise area, and a full bathroom!
Can’t wait to show you guys the rest and I will update when my craft room is finally finished.

thanks suzanne! And yes, I will be right over 😉
Beautiful job, Hayley!
thanks so much Melissa!
We are in the process of finishing our basement, so it’s great to see your setup! I bet it’s wonderful sewing down there…I can’t wait for my space! The framing is done, so next is HVAC and electrical. eeeekk!! 🙂
aww thanks April!~ I bet you are SO excited!
What a great space! I could spend hours in there!
I wish I could spend all day in there!
I love the covered bulliten board, I have some of the exact fabric left over from a quilt… now I know what I’ll do with it!
Thanks so much Amy! That is actually a canvas that I painted, but the bulletin board idea is great…. I think I know what fabric you are referring to!
This room is beautiful! I love it – and want one of my own :-). Just stopping by to welcome you to the Social Fabric Community!
Thanks so much Jen! I can’t wait to further investigate the community!
On my wish list for a someday house… this beautiful sewing room. Right now my fabric lives in a cubby in the kids room the sewing machine serger live in the living room when they aren’t in use (when they are they occupy the opposite side of the table from the kids). And my stash of paper patterns live in my computer desk, with the elastic and trim. My pdf patterns that I have printed live in the dinning room closet with the thread.
aww thanks! I know how lucky i am with the space. It is so hard to keep a small cubby/table organized, but the one good thing is that is stops you from over buying fabrics, hah!
That. Is. Amazing. I just want to come sit in it. And have you make some wall art for my 4 kids! I love it! Welcome to Social Fabric!!!
thanks so much Kriste!
I am ashamed to admit it, but…I have sewing room envy! I should be happy I have a room at all but it is the smallest one in the house and the most crowded. I love how spacious yours is and how bright and cheerful you have made it look already. It’s wonderful! I had to smile when I saw the dollhouse. My husband made the exact same one for our daughter when she was little. Most of the rooms are finished with wallpaper and carpeting and he added a trap door and folding ladder to the very top room.
Aww that is So awesome that your daughter had the same dollhouse!!! I put all the electrical wiring, carpeting, and wallpaper in about 15 years ago, so it has seen better days…. I hope to fix it up one day, just in time for my daughter to be old enough to play with it 🙂
Soooo amazing!! I’m amazed how cool your room looks. If mine looks even an eighth as nice when it’s done, I will be a happy crafter!! And this is certainly a kick in the pants to get it done!!
yay, I am glad I could give you that kick in the pants, haha! I am sure yours will look fabulous!
What a cool room!!
