When Shannon from luvinthemommyhood and Very Shannon asked me to be a part of her Sally Dress pattern tour, I was so stoked. Not only have I been reading her blog for a long time now, I loved the sneak peeks of the dress and couldn’t wait to make my own.
Once I got a hold of the pattern, I let Ainsley pick out the fabrics she wanted and I think she did a pretty good job! (I did gently guide her to the matching purple dots:)
The pattern was so easy to follow! I didn’t change anything about the actual pattern, but I did add a strip of fabric down the front of the bodice because Ainsley loved the Riley Blake Little Matryoshka Dolls Purple (affiliate link). It was very easy to do. Cut a strip to the width and length you need, iron under the sides and attach to the bodice before sewing to the lining. I also added some cute ric rac for extra detail.
Oh boy, Ainsley has a thing for pockets. She just absolutely adores anything with pockets and this dress was no exception. She has managed to fit several toys in there, plus one of our new kitty cats. Score one for Ainsley!
I love how the Sally dress fits so well and there are no zipper or buttons, which means Ainsley can dress herself in the mornings.
Score one for Mommy!
I plan to make more of these for sure.
I think I will make the sleeveless version next and layer it with a long sleeve shirt underneath.
I think she is happy too, what do you think?
Guess what dress she chose (and dressed herself in) for the very first day of school? I think that speaks a thousand words.
Thanks so much Shannon for asking me to be a part of this!
