Eek! I came in first place this week over at So You Think You’re Crafty for the Around the World Challenge!
Introducing:
The Around the World in 80 Days Dress, Necklace and Banner
…quite the mouthful, huh?
As soon as I saw that the theme for this week was Around the World, the inner nerd in me immediately thought of the classic book “Around the World in 80 Days”, which has often been represented with illustrations of men in a hot air balloon. Now, here is where I am going to blow your mind….they never actually travelled in one during the story. Nope, no hot air balloons for those original guys, but the film in 1956 changed that storyline and I much prefer the idea of travelling the world in a beautiful hot air balloon, as opposed to a steam train or an elephant. Plus, hot air
balloons make for a much cuter outfit!
I made Ainsley’s dress and banner out of multiple fabrics:
The cute hot air balloon fabric was a fat quarter from Spoonflower
The skirt fabric is a mash up of two fabrics:
the map fabric is by Sarah Jane
the children fabric is by Free Spirit
The pattern for the dress was Little Lizard King’s Aria Ruffle Dress. Although, I did modify it… shortened it, no ruffle, and lengthened the bodice to fit in the hot air balloon fabric,
it is a wonderful pattern… go buy it!
Then, out of polymer clay and little bumpy bead, I made her a hot air balloon necklace that she adores!
(there will most definitely be a tutorial!)
Finally, I made a simple, easy banner out of the leftover hot air balloon fabric and ric rac. (again, this will be a tutorial soon!)
She wants to hang this up in the new playroom!
haha
Thanks to everyone who voted!
Next week’s theme is Ruffles…. I can’t wait to see what everyone came up with.

You did a great job! I wouldn’t have even considered making a piece of jewelry to pair with a special outfit, but it works so well with the outfit.

I voted for you, so glad you won! Strangely enough, one of my favorite youtubers that makes polymer clay tutorials, also made a hot air baloon necklace!
