I recently had the opportunity to pattern test two of Blank Slate Patterns new designs! Big Island Board Shorts and The Retro Romper. I love when I can make things for Ethan, as well as Ainsley.
The Big Island Board Shorts (affiliate link) are a super quick sew and they look adorable.
I cut up an old swimsuit of Garrett’s to use for the fabric and I think it is perfect. You could even try going to a thrift store to see if you can find some old bathing suits to use for fabric. If not, you will need some quick dry nylon.
Pocket in the back is perfect for storing seashells.
They fit perfectly, even around his skinny little tummy.
My favorite part has to be the sides with bias tape.
It gives it a real retro feel.
Can’t forget about The Retro Romper!
It reminds me so much of the rompers I used to wear as a little kid.
It ties at the shoulders, but it is easy to pull up and down for quick potty breaks 😉
Perfect little summer outfit for blowing bubbles, haha!
Is it just me or does it look like Ainsley is about to use some fighting words? Don’t mess, people.
This pattern was also another super easy and quick sew, which is always a plus!
Both patterns have been released and you can find them over at Blank Slate Patterns!

I just adore the “blowing bubbles” picture! Gorgeous job Hayley!
I love the retro romper and your version is adorable!
They are both great. She does look a bit threatening in the one picture- maybe it is just the romper, but I feel like she might be after someones dodge ball 😉
both outfits are great! I love how the shorts fit your son. The little romper is so cute! When I wore that style as a little girl, I only untied one strap when I needed to run to the restroom. Then all that was needed was to tie the other one again. Rompers are fun to play in!
