Hello everyone! I’m Crystalyn from FlavorPink.com, and I am so very excited to be here today. I’ve got a fun little project to share with you all.
I have a sweet friend who is due any day now with her second child. I wanted to throw her a baby shower, but she is very shy and kindly refused the offer because she doesn’t like being the center of attention. But I still wanted to do something nice for her to celebrate her little boy.
So I decided to throw her a secret party that she could enjoy from the comfort of her own home without a dozen women trying to guess how big around she is. (Like any pregnant woman wants to know that exact number when they already feel like a whale.)
It turns out planning a pretend baby shower is just as much fun as planning a regular baby shower. I designed this “invitation” using the fantastic Storyteller kit from Persnickety Prints.
When you stop to think about it, you really only need three things for a successful baby shower. (Well, four if you count the pregnant lady. That is a pretty important part.)
First you’ll need some sort of decor. I made a simple paper banner by printing the digital one from Persnickety Prints, cutting them out and sewing them together. I also threw in some balloons and some tissue paper poofs I had had leftover from a Christmas present.
Second, sweets! I made some sugar cookies and chocolate covered Oreo cookie pops. I found the cookie pops idea on Pinterest, and the caption said “so much easier than cake pops!” But let me tell you, it’s not true! Oh my goodness these gave me so much trouble… And then to top it off, they totally melted in the car ride so it ended up being more like a bag of chocolate Oreo soup with random sticks poking out. At least the cookies turned out good.
And last of all, obviously, some gifts for the new mom. I made two picture frames using the names of their two kids, a little faux vest onesie with a cute green bow tie, and a set of brother and sister fabric dolls. (That doll tutorial is fantastic, I’ll be making more for my own two cuties.)
I very strategically shoved all of these things into an empty pretzel container I grabbed from work. I decorated the outside of the jar with scrapbook paper to cover the UTZ Pretzels label. You can easily use any sort of container. I’ve even used an empty Valentine’s chocolate box to send a similar gift to my aunt last month. This would be such a fun surprise to send that pregnant friend or relative who lives too far away!

Thanks so much for posting this adorable idea Crystalyn!!!
Hello! Just a tip for the oreo pops (I used to work in a bakery and we made them a lot). If you take the package of oreos, take the outside wrapper off but leave the cookies in the tray, then microwave them like that for 10 seconds, you’ll be able to insert the stick into the cream (while the cookies are still in the tray) without the cookies popping apart. Next, freeze them for an hour or more to set the filling and hold the stick firm. This should make dipping them easier! Hope this helps!
