Remember when I said I was a Cheater? Well, the staircase is finally finished and we love it! We still need to pick out a carpet runner, but that might not happen for a long time because I am being really indecisive about it.
(Find all the BEFORE pictures in this post HERE)
The banisters were stained a really nice deep, rich color and the spindles were painted white, just like the stairs. It has completely brightened and transformed our foyer and stairwell. Love! Paint is the best thing ever!

LOVE!
View from upstairs, and I will be showing off the new flooring soon! (after we finish off the trim work)
So, doesn’t paint make a HUGE difference!? Love it!

It looks AMAZING!
I love it! I know how you feel.. I did the exact same renovation.. and the loss of the gross oak is like you live in a whole new house.
Here is my makeover: http://www.themoney-pit.com/2012/01/stair-makeover-reveal-and-tutorial.html I like your white stairs though.. I may still paint the risers!
Nice job!
AMAZING!!! The staircase looks much brighter and cuter after a coat of white colored paint. Thank you for sharing the photos. You already did a great work by your own “DIY” style.
Looks GREAT. What color did you stain your railings….and what did you use to seal them?
Thank you, Jeff. Unfortunately, I don’t remember what I used, but I will try to find out.
Banister looks great!!!We are getting ready to paint one in our new house. What color stain did you use, if you remember?
I honestly don’t remember, Meighan, (ha! ha!) but it was a dark minwax color. I’ll try to see if I can find the can.
