Return to “Normalcy”

Why is it so hard to return to “normal life” after the holidays??  I wish I knew the answer because this question plagues me year after year after year after year.

Where to store the new toys?  How to deal with the tantrums of getting rid of old toys?  How to deal with thankfulness, in general?

I will be addressing those topics soon, but in the meantime, here are some pictures of our holiday festivities!  Whatever you celebrate, I hope it was a good one!

Ainsley was SO excited for Christmas!

Picture of the tree before the gifts got ripped open:

We had left Santa homemade Pumpkin Bread, milk, carrots for the reindeer, and a note…. He left us with this:

Christmas Morning!!!

Ethan had the Christmas Morning Sadz…. I don’t want to make fun of him, I really don’t.  He has Autism and holidays, like Christmas, utterly overwhelm him.  He is truly thankful for every gift he receives, but he can’t show it.  He desperately wants to enjoy the day, but he can’t.  It is hard to watch 🙁

Ainsley, on the other hand, will take any gift she can, lol:

I guess we both had the Christmas Sadz…. I hate seeing one of my kids so upset 🙁

Ainsley loved her new dollhouse:

The rest of the day was filled with family visiting and NEW presents!  Joy~!

Thanks to all of our family…. you are truly wonderful.  We can’t thank you enough.

Aww, sad for sadz. 🙁 I want to hug him. Glad there was joy later on. 🙂 The felt board looks awesome! Did you make the toolbench also?

I just found your blog and love it!! I feel like I haven’t done anything creative for a long time but, cook. (I do catering.)
I too have a son named Ethan, he also has autism. He is just getting ready to turn 10. The holidays have always been a very overwhelming time for him. So I understand how Christmas morning can be sad, when you want so much for it to be happy.
I wrote you a long note on what I’ve learned this year but erased it. It makes me crazy when I get unsolicited advice on how to deal with my son. If you are interested let me know and I’m happy to share.
Just keep doing what you do! I’ve now read your whole 2011 year. I’m so inspired. Thanks. I really needed that.

Your blog is so great! I discovered it on Zite! You better bet this is the first of exactly one million times I’ll be coming back. You’re kids are so beautiful. What a blessing.
