I think this is the 3rd or 4th time I have posted about our living room! Clearly, this is a room I struggle with, but I am determined to make it work. My major design issue is that it is the very first room people see in our house and I want it to be somewhat presentable.
Another big issue we have is that this room is connected to our playroom (aka dining room that won’t be a dining room again for at least 12 years), so the toys and paraphernalia tend to pour out into our unsuspecting living room. We try our best to keep it “toy free”, but that definitely doesn’t work.
Here is our latest attempt at decorating this room. Please give me suggestions and advice! We have a bay window that is BEGGING for something, anything! Recently, we hung those silk curtains, hung a new mirror above the couch (which needs to be raised up higher, got new throw pillows for the couch, and added an armoire to the corner). We also have a vast area next to the TV stand that we don’t know what to do with…HELP!

I’m not going to be much help but I love the shelf above the TV – the painting & bird cage are great.
I found your blog through Babycenter and I was wondering if you were going to be offering a pattern or tutorial for the Bumbo covers anytime soon..??? By the way, your kiddos are super cute 🙂
Oh you should totally put a bench in that bay window (hard to do with a tot, I know. And what if you added a refinished short dresser to the tv side? Extra storage for spilled over toys and some more decor!
Thanks for the tips and advice! I definitely need to put something in front of the bay window, Trish! Rebecca, thanks! I actually painted the birdcage myself…it used to be a glittery gold, lol.
Tonya, I am in the process of making up the pattern, but I am so busy with my etsy orders right now. Hopefully, I will have the pattern/tutorial out soon!
hi,I see lot to be done in your living room like u must have a low height sitting below your window and have a coffee table instead of those black puffys arrange them in vacant spaces just for sitting and add a few colorfull delights so as to make it more lively.
I don’t really feel like the armoire in the corner is working. It is not the right size or scale for that corner.
If the television fits in it, I would replace the entertainment center with it.
For the corner, I would find a tall yet thin shelving unit or would get several small floating shelves for the wall and maybe a large potted plant to bring in a natural element.
