My NEW Craft Studio Room!

I FINALLY have a room to call my own!  So, so, so excited about this.  Since we moved in about 6 months ago (has it already been half a year?!), I have been so disorganized with my craft/sewing stuff and it was driving everyone crazy.  I had fabrics in almost every room, sharp pins were dangerously strewn about, papers were littering the upstairs guest room.

Well, my Etsy Store opened and I had such huge volumes of orders, which caused the chaos to grow and become out of control!  It was decided that a Studio was in order!  (no complaints from me, of course!)

I am so proud of my new room because it cost me under $150 total to complete!  I will explain how that worked out.

It is not totally finished…. I still have a few more pieces of art to hang and some fun stuff to add, but it looks great so far.

This is the view from the doorway.  This is what I refer to as my “Cricut Center”.  I have my wonderful Cricut Expression sitting on top of a dresser (FREE…got it out of someone’s trash.  Yep, I ain’t too proud to admit it!).   The top drawer holds all my Cricut mats, vinyl, extra paper, etc.  Next to the Cricut, I have a paper organizer to hold my 12×12 cardstock, and a bin on top to hold my Cricut accessories.  I definitely need to get more organizers for my paper.

Above my “Cricut Center”, I have a white metal magnet board that I got at IKEA for $12 and it has three clear magnetic tins on there right now.  They hold my buttons and fabric tags.  I plan to add more of those down the line.  Perfect place to hang paperwork, too!

You can see my paper cutter, too.  (it is underneath the top storage box).  I scored that for $10 off Craigslist.  It works great!

This is my favorite area of the whole room and I plan to do future posts about this to show how I did some of the things.  I bought two new desks at IKEA… the corner unit was about $40 and the long table was about $20.  Not too bad!  The two shelves above the table were about $5 a piece and the metal bar and pink buckets totalled $5, as well.  The pink buckets hold my scissors, rotary cutters, scalpel, seam ripper, measuring tapes, etc.  Everything I need on a daily basis is within easy reach!

I already had a thread holder (shown in the corner of the desk), but I needed another one, and it was about $3 (coupons!)  Everything else, I already owned.

We already owned this bookcase (also from IKEA), but I bought the cute storage boxes to go above it for my fabric scraps.  I have an issue…. I can NEVER throw away fabric, even if it is a 1 inch square.  I swear, it’s an addiction!  I have more fabric, but I haven’t gotten a chance to fold it and put it on my lovely shelves yet.  The top shelf holds mostly Amy Butler Fabrics…. yes, I love her stuff!~

Here is a shot while standing at my “Cricut Center”.  It is a view of the fabric station and closet.  I bought a mini ironing board from IKEA ($5, I think?) so that I no longer have to drag out the giant one everytime I need to quickly iron fabric!  It now hangs from the closet doors.

This is inside the closet, which still has to be finished.  The top shelf holds all my interfacing, batting, fusing, etc.  All the stuff I don’t use on a daily basis.
The middle shelf is for my Etsy inventory and receipts for tax time!
Bottom area is where I store my extra cutting mats, glue, notions, paper scraps, and general “do-dads”.  OH, and a trashcan 🙂

Here is a side view of my table.  One of the items I am so excited about are my fabric circles hanging on the wall!  I plan to add at least 3 more, but this is good for today.  I needed some artwork, but I didn’t want to spend a lot of money, so I bought 4 embroidery hoops from a craft store (using coupons of course!) for about $3 total.  Then, I put in fabric I already owned (bought from the remant section!) and hung them up.  Instant art for not much money at all.  Like I said, I want at least 3-5 more.  I will post an update when I do that!

There are two things in this picture that I LOVE.
First, is the box on the floor, under the table.  I have stored all my shipping supplies in there.  Bubble wrap, padded envelopes, business cards, packing tape, tissue paper, business stickers, etc.  It is so much easier to ship a package to a customer now that everything is in one place.  I LOVE IT!
Second, is the GIANT cutting mat I have on the floor.  I got that baby on Black Friday for $25.   It normally sells for over $79.  Score!  Now, I have a place to keep it at all times, without having to roll it up (it is seriously heavy!)
By the way, the room used to be Ainsley’s room and it was already painted pink (I think it was Ballerina, by Olympic Paints), so that was easy!
Anyway, I hope you enjoyed looking at my new studio/craft space.
I have tons of pictures from Christmas, but haven’t had time to upload all of them and post them.  I will do that this week.
I also have a few posts to do about a few presents I bought for myself!

I am in awe at your organization! I have a whole basement for my sewing/designing but I’m at a loss as to what to do with it. Got some great ideas from you!
