I guess when you have children, you should expect a few emergency hospital visits and a few parental heart attacks, right?
Well, I got my first hospital visit this past week. Good times, good times.
Let’s set the scene. It was a Friday afternoon. I had taken both kids to MOM’s group meeting in the morning and we briefly went to the playground afterwards, but the wind sent us home early. We got home, ate some lunch, watched some Little Einsteins, and played with some toys.
Mommy was REALLY looking forward to naptime. REALLY REALLY looking forward to it. I got Ainsley down for a nap, rather easily, which is rare. Next up was Ethan. I took Ethan to his room, brushed his teeth, changed his diaper, got him up into his big boy bed, and started reading him “Chick A Chick A Boom Boom”. Ethan started whining. His usual whine. He wanted to read the book in his chair instead. “Sure”, Mommy said. I went and sat in Ethan’s chair and watched in horror as Ethan flipped out of his bed!!! He landed right on the bottom corner of his night stand. He cried and I grabbed him, realizing that there was blood pouring out of his adorable head. I honestly didn’t know what to do! I started shaking, telling Ethan that it will be okay.
I ran downstairs and tried calling Garrett at work, but he wasn’t picking up. I called my mum and luckily she picked up and immediately said she was on her way to my house! SO, I called the doctor’s office and let them know what happened. They told me to get to the hospital right away. In the meantime, Garrett got my voicemails, and he was headed home.
Poor Ethan had blood all over him and I was trying to clean him up, but he just wanted to be hugged. As soon as Garrett got home, we drove to the hospital. The doctor had to put staples in his head!!!
It was BY FAR the worst parenting experience…. They had to restrain Ethan in a straight jacket and attach him to a board. I felt helpless watching my innocent, scared son being strapped down. I understand why they had to do it, but I felt soooooo bad. Then, they stuck huge needles under his skin to numb it. It burned him so badly and he cried so hard. Poor guy. Finally, the doctor brought out the staple gun and stapled his cut. Oh wow. I never want to see that again.
Ethan is doing well and he will have his staples out this week. He is such a champ and hasn’t complained since the incident. He really is such a good kid. I love him so much and hated seeing him in pain.

Oh this sounds so scary! I would be crying like a baby watching Brady go through that. I hope Ethan starts feeling better and is running around like a crazy little guy again. Poor baby!
