A while ago, I had mentioned that we wanted to eventually redo the outside of our house. Read about it here .
Just a reminder of what our house looked like last week:
Not bad, just not “us”!
We hadn’t planned on doing anything just yet because of several factors, the biggest factor being money (well, LACK of money is a better term). However, I came across an amazing deal for BRAND NEW black shutters on Craigslist (of course!) and we couldn’t pass it up! Someone was selling 4 black shutters in the exact size we needed and they were still in the packaging. We paid $30 total for 4!!! Of course, we needed 6 shutters, so we had to buy two more at Home Depot for $50. So, for $80, we had the beginnings of our exterior transformation.
Next, we discovered that Sherwin Williams was having an amazing 3 day sale. Every paint in the store was 40% off!! We picked out a black paint color for the garage doors (1 Gallon of Sherwin Williams Tricorn in Satin Exterior for around $30…) and a red paint for the front door (1 Quart of Sherwin Williams Chantellier in Satin Exterior for around $15)). Just a tip…. if you ever paint anything red, make sure you take the time to do a primer coating first. It took Garrett about 6 coats of red paint to get it right. Oops.
Finally, I spraypainted the two outdoor light fixtures in a black satin ($3 for one can), just to tie everything together and to get rid of the awful brass. We eventually want to replace them completely, but again, money is tight right now, so we have to work within our budget.
So, total cost for our first exterior transformation was about $125. Not bad! Here are the afters!
We still have a lot we want to do with the exterior:
-change out all the hardware/door handles/fixtures to either black or oil rubbed bronze
-fix the landscaping
-stain the concrete on the porch to a tan
-replace the mailbox
-add some sort of chairs to the porch
However, we love it and it feels so “us” now!

I love it! The red door makes everything else POP. Can’t wait to see it this arvo.
Are these the names of the colors you used?
(1 Gallon of Sherwin Williams Tricorn in Satin Exterior for around $30…) and a red paint for the front door (1 Quart of Sherwin Williams Chantellier in Satin Exterior for around $15)).
I like the colors you picked for the house. I have a tan house with a burgundy door and shutters and would like to changed my shutters to black but not sure about the door color. I read an article the front door should be the focus point of the house.
