Merry Christmas Eve to everyone!
I am one of those people that absolutely love Christmas Eve. It is a day full of excitement and hustle and bustle, trying to get things completed before the big day. Garrett and I spent the day cleaning, wrapping presents, cooking, and enjoying each other’s company. Ethan didn’t seem to take notice that this day was different than other days and he just went about his normal business of eating, playing, napping, whining.
Our family traditions for Christmas Eve are fairly simple, but very important to us. We decided long before Ethan came along that holiday traditions are very sacred to children and we wanted to make sure our child/children got to experience special moments each year. When the night winds down and it’s just about time for bed, we let Ethan open two gifts. One is always a Hallmark ornament that symbolizes the past year and the other present is always new Christmas pajamas to wear to bed that night. Finally, we read “‘Twas the Night Before Christmas” as his bedtime story. Ethan could have cared less about these traditions this year, but we know that he will come to cherish those memories as he gets older and that is so important to us.
Ethan “opening” his ornament:
Ethan getting upset that he only got to open clothes and ornaments… “Where are the toys?”
The wine that I needed to be able to cook at 9pm:
The egg and cheese and other stuff mixture:
How disgusting does this look? It goes in the fridge overnight and will be turned into a delicious breakfast in several hours:
