Potty Learning

It is called “Potty Training” by many, but I prefer the term “Potty Learning”. It is a learning curve for both parents and child. The parents need to learn the cues that the child is giving. Parents are also the ones responsible for making sure to keep a potty schedule. The child is merely a spectator in this whole situation. They are just getting used to seeing a potty and peeing on a potty. Pretty easy, right?

Well, Ethan started using the “real” potty when he was about 9 months old and he did fantastic! He would consistently use it correctly and I would be very happy that it reduced the amount of diaper changes.

However, I blame the recent happenings on Garrett (of course… he is a man and we should always blame things on the man). Ever since Garrett has been off work for the summer, the potty learning has ceased. Kaput. Gone. Zilch. Nada.

I am determined to get this up and running again once Garrett returns to work in September. I am determined that Ethan will be potty learning again!

Wish us luck!

“Potty Learning” – I like that! I’ve always hated the word training because it made me think of training an animal instead of my child. We haven’t started potty learning with Stella yet, but we are going to pick up a potty next week & give it a shot. Stella has started telling us when she poops. She calls it “put.” It’s hysterical.

You are inspiring me! Nine months? That’s awesome! Our diaper changes are becoming wrestling matches, so as much as I dread potty learning, I’m also looking forward to it. Keep up the great work!

Wow, good for you to start so early. My hubby has been off work too, for the past month, and they DO mess up the routines and stuff. I am glad he is going back Monday!
