So, I have been talking about my kitchen for years now. I can’t wait until I can afford to completely redo it. Sure, it is a good kitchen… absolutely nothing truly wrong with it. I just want a different look! My dream is to have white cabinetry with some glass doors, a gray island, new quartz countertops, an apron sink, subway tile backsplash… you get the picture. However, in the meantime, our kitchen needs some color and personality.
I was browsing around Target the other day (which seems to happen way too much) and I couldn’t believe that they now have a section with paint and wallpaper! What??? I scooped up this wallpaper for $30, not knowing what I would do with it. I knew that I would find a use for it somewhere in the house. I just recently wallpapered Ainsley’s bedroom and have been wanting to put wallpaper somewhere else in the house. The best part about this “wallpaper” is that it isn’t traditional wallpaper. It is actually a vinyl sticky back paper that is completely removable and easily repositioned! Oh, and yes, it is wipeable… exactly what you need in a kitchen. I realized that this wallpaper would make the perfect temporary backsplash, so I got to work. In about 3 hours, I had a whole new look for such a little amount of money. Perfect!
I think it brings a good amount of color and interest to the otherwise boring kitchen and the color goes really well with the rest of the house.
I am sure there are lots of questions like “Was it easy to install?” Yes, it was definitely easy. You just want to make sure you are matching up the seams, which does require some patience. I had one area that got messed up on purpose. I realized that by the time I got to this area that the pattern was starting to go off a bit. In order to fix it, I had to offset the design, otherwise, the pattern would have been very visibly off. I chose to do this in an area that no one will notice because it is covered by the coffee maker.
I really don’t think you can even see it, can you?
Overall, I am very happy with how this has turned out. When I am ready to remove it, it will be very easy to just peel off and it shouldn’t damage any of the wall like normal wallpaper can often do. This would be great for renters, right?!
Unlike traditional wallpaper, the only tools I needed was a utility knife (make sure it is sharp!) and a straight edge ruler. No need for paste or water or any of those typical wallpaper tools! Easy peasy.
So, what do you think? Would you consider doing something like this in your own house?

Are you kidding me? I’m going to shop for some right now! I’ve been looking for an in expensive, but practical alternative to tile for our back splash for a while. Woot! Thanks. 🙂
Looks great! Did you have to remove any of it during installation? We bought some command strip adhesive hangers that weren’t supposed to remove paint but they totally did. Oops. Also I have the same dream for my kitchen but it’s not going to happen for a long time.
Looks great and you definitely can’t see the bit behind your coffee maker! Just wish they could have something cool like this in the uk so I could make my house look good so easily!
