I love to sew and I love to try new patterns.
I also love when I can laugh at myself.
Even failures can be funny, right?
I have been wanting to try my hand at a bubble romper for Ainsley and found a pattern in my stash that seemed like it could work.
I won’t lie. I generally avoid all Simplicity patterns because they almost always seem to have fitting issues, regardless of their so called “sizing chart” on the back.
However, I threw all caution to the wind and had a crazy moment.
I was determined to make Ainsley a cute “retro” bubble romper.
I began cutting and sewing.
I was starting to see how, um, large this bubble romper was getting.
I said to myself “Sheesh, this looks like it could fit ME!”
Morning time came and I tried it on her.
Pictures just don’t do it justice.
Trust me when I say that this thing was HUGE.
I even changed up the back a bit to bring it in.
Even Ainsley got a good giggle out of it.
Here is where everyone in the family got a real good laugh.
Remember when I had the thought “It could probably fit me?”
Well, I wanted to test that theory.
And my theory was correct.
And I love being correct.

That last picture was awesome! I needed a laugh today.
oh my goodness! haha. I hate simplicity patterns for that reason – even when I measure and use their chart on the back… so annoying!
omg that is hilarious! i have the worst luck with any pattern sold in joanns. so i guess mostly simplicity. they are always just so giant!
kk
Who needs ruffle hot pants when you have your own bubble romper? You should send this to simplicity. Maybe they need pattern testers. 😉
That’s a good look for you, Hayley… 🙂
Oh no you DIDN’T!!!!!!!!!!! That picture is so rad. Can you wear that when we go fabric shopping!!??? PRETTY PLEASE!!!!??????????? LOL
You rock that romper!
I just laughed so hard. Love that you don’t take yourself too seriously!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
hahaha! LOVE it! Ainsley’s little giggling face is priceless;)
TOO FUNNY!!!
I just made up a bubble romper pattern from a romper that I loved in a “too small” size, well, it too was a very similar fail….
However, in no way can I fit into it!
I LOVE yours! =)
LOVE it. Lol!
That is hysterical! I cannot believe you actually tried it on. Amazing 🙂
WOW! That is pretty awesome that it fits you though. I mean if you ever have a costume party to go to you can always go as a 2-year-old!
Exactly why I usually make my own patterns! The romper is cute and I love that you had fun with it!
This is a great post! I found you on Simple Simon ugly patterns link up. I’m so excited- I have some real beasts I’m going to link up tomorrow!!!
So funny. And the photo from the pattern you started with is pretty funny to!

Oh good heavens. Can you believe that pattern is (now was) actually on my ‘to buy’ list? It looks adorable hanging on the line in the first photo. It is soo disappointing when things don’t work out, but at least you got a laugh out of it!
Well she’ll grow into it!
oh my goodness! that is so stinkin funny! (P.S. i found your blog through the pdf facebook page.)
I really dislike using the “store” patterns. The patterns I use most are PDF. One thing I have found with almost all the PDF designers I have used is when there is a problem they help out. I have had them even call me to make sure I was satisfied with their solution and understood what they wrote me. I have also had them change a pattern because of what I was reading did not make sense to me. I have found that sale or no sale of McCalls, Simplicity or other pattern makers the service and look is so much better with the pdf designers…. now that means you need to put the pattern together the right way, but having done that it usually comes out so much better.
This gave me a good laugh!
Hahaha oh that is hillarious!
truly awesome.
So funny! Thanks for sharing!!! I wonder – do they actually test these???
Simplicity patterns, etc, never fit correctly and are usually too large, but I’ve never been able to fit into a very young child’s outfit. Thanks for the laugh!!!
I came across this story from the fact that it was shared on “Scary Sewing Stories” and it cracked me up! Thank you for sharing this not-so wonderful sewing adventure!
awesome o possum!!!! yes i have had fitting issues too…. love indie patterns… these ladies CARE!!
